ntroduction
New Breed began with furniture, but the complete body of work reveals something larger: a developing language for making furniture. Across the Series, recognizable forms recur - Petals, oversized dowels, penetrations, cantilevers, frames, laminations, cones and rounded connectors - but they are not motifs pasted onto conventional objects. They are structural devices, manufacturing solutions and reusable components.
The chronology matters. PetalPly establishes the basic grammar. Kid A rearranges it and introduces mechanical adjustability. Pong pushes the structure into extreme cantilever and dual use. A Frame develops engineered hollow-core panels and a low-tech pressing method. Abacus turns structural dowels into tracks for movable accessories. Petalstal rotates the dowel vertically and introduces bent lamination. Compass extends tapering into casework and negative space. Folly expands dowels, moldings and rattan into increasingly architectural assemblies. Strobiloid moves the Petal idea from the plane into three-dimensional cones. X Wing recombines earlier lamination technologies. RectRound turns a proprietary corner and assembly method into a system capable of moving from furniture into entire interiors.
Each project leaves something behind: a joint, a component, a jig, a mold, a machine, a profile, a proportion or a better way to assemble an object. Those things become available to the next project. One Series teaches the next.
That is the larger New Breed idea. The object is the visible result. The component is the building block. The process makes it repeatable. The system connects everything.
